Burgess108 Report for March 17, 2008

Mid March, again! Seems like only a short while ago - not an entire year- when I entered the race for the 108th District State House seat. I am sure the time will continue to pass, ever faster, from now through November.

I've been going everywhere and doing everything I can (to borrow a phrase) to let people know that I will be a strong voice and a tireless advocate for the U.P. in Lansing. And the pace will only quicken from here on.

A link is provided on the Press page to a recent article from the Iron Mountain Daily News, reporting on my recent district-wide formal announcement of candidacy. It was covered well by the newspapers, radio and TV-6, and I continue to hear from folks across the district about it.

CAREER CHANGES

On February 1st, I left the law firm I'd been with - allowing me to campaign full time (and practice law on the side to pay the bills). It's working well and permits me much more flexibility with my schedule to attend events and meet with people throughout the district. The 3 counties of the 108th cover a fair share of real estate and I love traveling through it all. As the snowbanks begin to recede, the door-to-door campaigning will be in full swing very soon. I'm looking forward to coming to your doors to see what's on your minds!

WEBSITE

Burgess108.com, the campaign website, is up and running. Check it out! We're always fine tuning it, with new pages and updated info, so stop by on a regular basis to keep in touch with the campaign. One of my favorite new items is the list of endorsements - which is growing on a daily basis. If your name isn't yet included, drop me a note, an email, or give me a call and tell me that you, too, want to be publicly acknowledged as a part of the team. I am honored by the confidence in me that those of you already on the list have shown.

FUNDRAISING

We've been raising money the tried-and-true way: from friends, family, colleagues - in short, from you! We are proud to announce over 165 individual donations so far - a strong base of supporters upon which to build.

Some of you have been able to donate the maximum permissible for this election cycle already, and "thank you" just doesn't seem a strong enough expression of my appreciation. Most of you have opted for the "installment plan" - a series of smaller donations over the course of the campaign. This helps to keep money coming in and for many of us it is the only realistic way to give.

For all you've given so far, I am truly grateful. If you are at all able to make another installment, this would be a good time as we gear up for yardsign purchases, brochures to give out during the door-to-door visits, and try to keep the gas tank above empty while getting around the district.

Remember, maximum contributions per person are $500 (or $1000 for a couple), cumulative over the entire election cycle (November 2006 through November 2008). If you aren't sure how much you've given so far, we have that data in our files so contact me and I'll let you know.

Please send your personal checks or money orders to:

Please include your employer's name and your occupation (or indicate if you're retired or unemployed) since I'm required to report that to the Bureau of Elections with my campaign finance report.

I'm excited about this race! Can't wait to see you in person to talk more about it.
